The IVF Cycle That Wasn't

IVF cycle officially canceled.

They were so worried I would hyperstimulate I was put on Lupron and a low dose protocol.

It backfired.

Of course Dr. RE comes in the room saying "It's never easy having to deliver this kind of news"

"NEVER EASY?"

REALLY? "NEVER EASY" FOR YOU?

TRY BEING ON THE FUCKING RECEIVING END!!!!!!

I am so angry right now.

Only two follicles are developing.

I just found out today I only had 7-8 follicles at my baseline appointment. Which was 12 days after starting Lupron.

That would have been nice to know.

Adding insult to injury, they still wanted to get an estradiol level. After two pokes and no blood I said enough is enough and walked out.

My option is to convert the cycle to IUI. I would have to order more ridiculously expensive drugs to do this. I think it would be a waste.

Each of my five medicated cycles I always had 3-5 good follicles.

Proceeding with two seems like joke.

I asked if another cycle would be worth the effort. I was told that when this happens and someone tries a new protocol about half of the patients see a better response. At 30 I have a little better chance than someone at 40.

I hate infertility.

* Normally I would never swear on my blog, but today I make an exception. Thank you for understanding.

I'm sorry you got cancelled.

Don't give up yet. There are a lot of different protocols out there. Lupron might have suppressed you too far, but there are protocols that don't use it. There are other FSH drugs. So many options. First cycle on stims is always a crapshoot, unfortunately. If you responded well to clomid and femara, there's no reason they can't find a good stim protocol.

(And 7-8 at baseline for an endo patient doesn't sound awful to me. That's about what I had my first cycle and got 16 eggs. I had 3 my second cycle and got 20 eggs. The RE who manages my endo never blinked an eye at the low numbers of antrals.)

I am so sorry they cancelled your cycle. I'm sure this is extremely frustrating but I have my fingers crossed that your RE will figure out the correct protocol for you next time. ***HUGS***

Stopping by from cycle sistas...oh, MWE, I'm so sorry your cycle got cancelled. That flat-out sucks. This IVF stuff is all such a mystery--to me, at least. I so hope they're able to find a protocol that's a better fit for you. Sending hugs.

I am so very very sorry. This completely sucks. I was always a low responder - 4 eggs first cycle, and then 3 years later on a different protocol, 5 eggs - so a change in protocol can make a big difference. Second time round I didn't have to down reg which really cut the time and I did a cetrocide cycle. Sometimes when you down reg it can suppress you too much for the ovaries to then kick back. Not that this helps you here and now - but I send you love and thoughts xxx

I'm so sorry that your cycle was cancelled. I hope that things work out better the next time, and it sucks that they picked the wrong protocol for you to start with.

I think that having a positive and caring staff at your fertility clinic is one of the most import things a person can have, when we are going through things like this. I hope you have an amazingly supportive group of family and friends !!
